Choose by transport, not one “best” town. Como has rail links and southern-lake departures; Varenna has a railway and central-lake ferries; Bellagio and Menaggio are useful ferry hubs but do not share the same rail access.
No. Navigazione Laghi runs scheduled transport between towns. A guided or private cruise adds commentary, a fixed circuit or chosen stops. Compare the route and departure pier before paying more.
The central-lake ferry makes that possible, but queues and seasonal timetables limit how much time remains in each town. Two towns are calmer; three require an early start and a checked return sailing.
It has lidos and small pebble, grass or stone access points, not a continuous sandy seaside beach. Access and swimming conditions vary by town, and boat traffic matters.
