How Much Does a Day at Lake Como Cost? Ferries, Villa Tickets and Boats Added Up
Updated October 17, 2026 · 5 min read
Plan on roughly €45 to €75 per adult for a sightseeing day, before meals: one garden or castle ticket, one boat trip and a ferry crossing. The two biggest levers are the boat (from €39.90 for a shared cruise) and how many separate ferry legs you buy. Lunch is yours to budget; we give no meal prices because we have no booking-page figure for them.
If you want one purchase that covers the lake view, the Varenna premium shared cruise is the cheapest well-reviewed boat trip and anchors every budget below.
The ferry: the cost people forget
Navigazione Laghi sells single tickets from about €4.60 for short central-lake crossings, according to 2026 fare summaries. A longer run such as Como to Bellagio is listed at €12.00 one-way on the regular boat, with the faster service priced higher. Fares and day passes differ by route and change, so check the operator before you build a tight budget. A return on a long route, two €12 legs, already costs more than the Villa Carlotta ticket.
What the entries cost
Villa Carlotta lists an adult ticket at €17.50 on its own 2026 price list, with €15 over 65, €7 for ages 6 to 18, €12 for ages 19 to 25, free entry for ages 0 to 5 and a €35 family ticket for two adults and two children. The booking-page listing starts at the adult price.
Other entries are smaller. Villa Cipressi in Varenna is €20 on its booking page. Everything else we compare below is the booking-page starting price per person.
| Option | Duration | From | Reviews | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Varenna premium shared cruise | 1.5 hours | €39.90 | 4.2 (1,005) | the cheapest time on the water |
| Villa Carlotta museum and garden | not stated | €17.50 | 4.6 (972) | the biggest garden for the money |
| Villa del Balbianello park entry | 1 hour | €15 | 4.6 (538) | a short, famous stop |
| Castello di Vezio entry | not stated | €7 | 4.5 (232) | the lowest-cost viewpoint |
| Winery tour with tasting | 1.5 hours | €63 | 4.8 (236) | food and wine as the day’s main event |
Three worked days
A castle-and-cruise day in Varenna is the lean version: the shared cruise plus the Castello di Vezio ticket comes to €46.90, with no ferry needed because both start from Varenna. That is the cheapest day that still feels like Lake Como.
A garden day on the western shore pairs Villa Carlotta with Villa del Balbianello. The two entries total €32.50, and you must add the ferry or road legs between them. It is cheaper than a boat day but more transport-dependent.
A fuller sightseeing day combining Carlotta, Balbianello and the shared cruise reaches €72.40 before ferries and lunch. It is possible but rarely relaxed; the third stop is where timetables start to hurt.
When the cheap option is the wrong one
The Varenna cruise has the lowest price and the lowest rating of this group at 4.2 stars, so it suits a first look rather than a special occasion. The winery tour at €63 has the highest rating at 4.8 but replaces a sightseeing stop, it does not add one.
The recommendation
For most people the best-value day is Villa Carlotta plus the shared cruise: the Carlotta ticket and the Varenna cruise go together well. Together they cost €57.40 before the ferry and meals. If you stay in Varenna, swap Carlotta for the €7 castle and save the ferry. For larger boats and private options, see the Lake Como boat tours page.
